My Objects - My Stories is a project of the LWL Museum of Archaeology and Culture, Westphalian State Museum Herne (LWL-MAK). It was developed on the basis of the platform Your Story Matters (https://your-story-matters.de), which was developed by the LWL-MAK together with NEEEU Spaces GmbH from Berlin and an advisory board of 12 volunteers. Your Story Matters was developed within the framework of "dive in. Programme for Digital Interaction" of the Federal Cultural Foundation, funded by the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) in the NEUSTART KULTUR programme.
The LWL-MAK is a state museum in Westphalia and a central showcase for the preservation of archaeological monuments. Its exhibits are a material mirror of the human history of this region. In order to inspire a broad public, the museum tackles unusual topics and realises bold and special exhibition concepts. The focus is on the excavated finds and their exciting stories. A staging and dramaturgy appropriate to the theme make this content tangible for its audience with all their senses. Millennia-old stories are combined into an up-to-date mediation concept through the use of state-of-the-art technology and methodology, through target group-oriented offers and through communication in various social channels. Participation, touching and trying things out are expressly encouraged.
Archaeology is fundamentally concerned with the things that man has produced. With its tangible approach, it also contributes to understanding modernity, i.e. the past 200 years. To this end, it examines, among other things, man's actions in relation to things. On the basis of six categories, the exhibition explores the relationships between modern man and his things. What things does man create for what purpose? What purpose do things have beyond their actual function? When do things serve memory, when are they an expression of feelings? How do things promote innovative developments and when are they handmaidens for destruction? for destruction? Are things mere helpers or do they make us special?
In the exhibition, the audience follows the strands of destruction, specialness, purpose, feeling, innovation and memory! They discover the exhibited objects and their stories and learn more about the many facets of modern societies in the 19th and 20th centuries.
The platform "My Objects - My Stories" is a digital tool that gives you the opportunity to participate in the exhibition "Modern Times". Because many objects that surround you are also connected to stories. For example, an heirloom that reminds you of someone special. Or it could be a kitchen appliance that you value because it is so easy to prepare good food. Or it could be your bicycle that reliably takes you everywhere, etc. Often we don't look too closely at the things that surround us. But it is worth taking a look. Just take a closer look. Maybe you will discover a rarity - object or story - that you would like to share.
Do you feel inspired? Then we would be delighted if your story became part of the exhibition!
We would like to thank everyone who contributed to the project:
